Who am I?
I’m originally from North Carolina and moved to Colorado in 2002. That spring, when I got to Cincinnati, OH every mile west I drove was the farthest west I’d ever been. At the time, I was working for REI and came out to shut down the Westminster store and open Boulder. I stayed in the outdoor industry selling more nylon and polyester than I’ll ever remember and took on many different roles and responsibilities in a variety of companies until 2014. After completing my MBA from Colorado State University in May of 2014, I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to use my main passion which is educating—it’s what really drives me as a person and gets me up in the morning. However, I also wanted something that would let me leverage all of the business skills I had gained through 18 years in both small and large businesses. In 2014, I was given an opportunity to build my own business through New York Life that lets me do all of these things and I haven’t looked back since!
Why New York Life?
Once I started to go down the road towards financial products, I looked around and did my research on different companies. While New York Life was the first to bring up the idea of me moving into the field, that didn’t mean I was going with the first suitor. After doing my research, I found that there is no other company that I would be willing to attach my name to and here’s why:
- New York Life has been around for 171 years and has paid a dividend, which is never guaranteed, to its policy holders for 161 consecutive years.
- New York Life Insurance Company and its subsidiary, New York Life Insurance and Annuity Corporation have received the highest ratings currently awarded to any life insurer by all four major ratings agencies as indicated by Moody’s: Aaa, A.M. Best: A++, Standard & Poor’s: AA+, Fitch: AAA Source: Individual Third Party Rating Reports (as of 8/13/15).
- New York focuses on the long term because we don’t have shareholders forcing us to look short term. New York Life is owned by its policy holders.
There are many other reasons why I’m building my business with New York Life and I’m happy to discuss them with you at any time.
What Do I Do, Specifically?
My specialty is working with clients to help them plan their financial futures—with a focus on tax diversification and arbitrage*. In my experience, I’ve found that many business owners and people are basing their planning on a tax code that hasn’t existed in nearly 40 years and could potentially be at risk for seeing their retirement get smaller due to future tax increases. I look at your entire financial “house” from the foundation to the roof and make sure there isn’t anything overlooked that could hinder your ability to save for the financial goals you have—of which retirement is probably only one of them.
